Are you a word wiz?

Which one of these words do you think comes out on top as a synonym of "vanquish"?

It's A that sends the others down to defeat. "Conquer" and "vanquish" both mean to defeat by force or planning. "Vanquish" stresses a complete overpowering (as in "the vanquished people lost many rights"). "Conquer" implies gaining and keeping control over another after a lengthy struggle (as in "ancient Rome conquered Gaul"). Another synonym, "overcome" implies defeating with difficulty or after a hard struggle (as in "finally overcame my fear of flying"). We can add to this list "overthrow," which stresses the bringing down and eventual destruction of those already in power (as in "used force to overthrow the dictator").
