Which of the following do you think is the year when the word "orbit" was first used as it's defined above?
It would be very difficult to watch heavenly bodies orbit while you scuba dive, but 1943 is the year that joins these two activities together. People used "orbit" as a noun long before that, though, with the meaning "the curved path that something, such as a moon or satellite, follows as it goes around something else, such as a planet." Our earliest evidence of the noun is from 1696! "Orbit" comes from the Latin word "orbita," meaning "path, rut, track."
